samurai-chan

i'm fairly certain that i was born to explore. i absolutely love it. when i was a little kid i did a book report on thor heyerdahl and the kon-tiki. i came to school to deliver the report dressed up as i thought most nordic adventurers must have. should've known then that i was a lifer. if there were any downside to walking around checking shit out, it would probably be that my back gets sore pretty quickly. clearly not enough to deter.

headed out to motomachi, motomachi desu, and explored for a couple of hours this morning. for y'all's sakes, i took a bunch of pictures of things that i had already seen. also some stuff i hadn't. went to a couple new neighborhoods, saw much cool stuff, and found a bulk honey store! good times indeed. here ya's go:

here we have china town, or at least one entrance of. you can get lots of food on sticks here.

this is a clock made of flowers on flower road. i saw one before in geneva that was also quite sweet.

this was taken in the fountain district.

this really cool building that i always see from the train. tracked it down today.

huge shrine containing multiple smaller shrines. there were all these adorable asian babies running around in there, some in tiny kimono, one in suspenders and a bow tie. i wanted to get a picture with him, but i think my very presence sort of freaked the little guy out. we reached a silent understanding and i moved on.

"cow statue with paper and sticks suspended overhead"

one of the smaller internal shrines.

cool view of flora within the larger external shrine enclosure.

Michael, great pics! The architecture there is certainly different from what we commonly see...I love the shrines!
Hope you're getting around okay with your limited Japangnese vocab!

I think you were born to blog. Your sister, she was born to comment on all your blogging. Have you been to a sumo match yet?

getting around quite well actually. lots of smiling and pointing. i had a great moment last night when i was able to convey at this restaurant that i don't eat meat and understand the suggestions she gave me. no sumo, but i applied to be a commentator for j-league soccer matches! could be very weird, possibly involved with gambling, but i like the idea of getting a bunch of odd jobs.
