masksks

oink, oink.

there have been a couple of confirmed cases of the ol' swizzle flizzle in the kōb. folks in asia often wear what look like surgical masks to protect from outside viruses, smog, and sometimes to contain their own germs. i think this mostly came about due to SARS back in the day. the news just hit town yesterday, and already folks are maskin up like crazy. a bunch of schools have been shut down to the ground, and the annual kobe festival was cancelled today.
if it makes it to this side of town, there's a pretty good chance that annie gets a few days off! that would be totally sweet, because then as millions of people are cowering inside of their houses, afraid of a fuckin flu strain, we could hit all kinds of cool spots and not have to deal with crowds of people wearing masks.

better go stock up on canned goods, bottled water, and tp. like it's 1999.

You've got to ask Kirstin about Y2K. She was crazy for it. Now when I got an informational page from her about flu pandemic, even if I should take it seriously, I can't. Because, well, it is JUST the flu, right? And doesn't the flu kill a bunch of people a year even when we aren't paying attention to it?
By the way, saw a a skate boarder get hit by a car (or maybe he hit the car, I couldn't tell) last night in Washington Park. Dumby didn't have a helmet and was carted off in the ambulance. There is something to get upset about---- wear your helmets flu people!

Been there, done that! We had our own personal hysteria locally. At church we were cautioned to not hold hands for the Our Father, we also were not to drink the wine from the cup. Willamina School District closed down completely and made it on the local news from Portland (all stations!). We actually make the news quite a bit out here. Last week we made it again because the School Board voted that birth control information and pills should be available at the school health clinic. Everyone is so up in arms about that one that we can safely cough into our elbows again.

For what it's worth the flu germs pass right thru the paper masks so don't waste your time. Party on!!
